Routine Maintenance Programs
It has been our experience that many major repairs and costly plant downtime could have
been avoided with strict adherence to a comprehensive locomotive maintenance and
inspection management program.
Many of today’s plant managers and facility personnel are not trained in railroad and
locomotive operations. Instead, management, operations and maintenance are often
learned from employees who did it before them. It is rare that plant employees will have the
experience necessary to identify potential safety and service problems before they become
more serious issues.
Nearly all Precision Locomotive Services staff are not only experienced service technicians
but former railroaders and licensed engineers as well. Our experienced staff offers a unique
and valuable perspective of your current railroad operations and locomotive service
management plan. We are familiar with successful practices at plants similar to yours and
will openly share our knowledge and experience of what works best and what does not.
We will work with you to provide a managed locomotive service and inspection program. We
can also provide training for your staff in the best current practices. Precision Locomotive
Services believes that safety and efficiency are goals we must all share and are beneficial to
us all.
Diagnostics, Repairs and Services
Many terminal and shortline railroads are operating equipment
that is fifty or more years old. Nearly all the manufacturers of these
locomotives ceased operations long ago. Spare parts and service
information have become rarer with each passing day. Fortunately
Precision Locomotive Services maintains a large and continually
growing library of historical service notes and maintenance
information. Our technicians are encouraged to explore and
contribute their own knowledge and experience to our library at
every opportunity.
Spare, serviceable and renewable parts for older locomotives can
be difficult to obtain but it is rarely impossible. Precision
Locomotive Services maintains a treasured network of suppliers
and a growing database of renewed and renewable parts and
sources.
